Volunteer Spotlight

Suited and Booted for Success

At the Women's Employment Network (WEN), lives are changed. Women arrive in need of career training and a fresh start. They leave the program with a level of confidence they may never have experienced in their lives.

In addition to the career skills that WEN graduates acquire, they're also "suited and booted" for success when it comes to dressing professionally—thanks in large part to volunteer Barbara Schulte.

For more than 10 years, Barbara has led a workshop for WEN clients on creating a professional image through creative uses of their wardrobe. She emphasizes that presenting your "best self" is the first step in moving forward.

"The workshop I present is a dialog—a hands-on, interactive one. I always leave with lots of energy from that exchange, and I hope that the ladies feel the same."

Upon graduating from WEN's Employment Preparation and Career Transition Training Program, clients have the opportunity to enhance their wardrobe with items from the professional clothing bank, which offers suits, blazers, blouses, dress slacks, purses and accessories.

If you'd like to join Barbara Schulte in helping Kansas City women change their lives, please consider making a donation to the WEN clothing bank. They also accept department store gift cards so clients may have the special experience of purchasing new clothing.
